| During the morning, i went and did some groce ry shopping with my mom. Afterwards, i went out with my friend, took a nice long walk then dropped by Ikea. I bought one of those things that you hang on the walls with pockets. And it looks like a frog. :) haha. so cute. I plan to put Socks in one of them, the other one for underwear.. and i dunno what the other one would be for...
Well time went by quick, and i had to go to work. So dropped my friend off, and headed to work. While i was at work, my dad called me. Usually i wouldn't pick up. It would be the usual "what time you off?" stuff. But i answered it, and good thing i did. Because he told me he had cut his finger, and is in Emergency Room at that moment. For my dad, when he gets hurt, and its not a big injury, he would usually treat it himself. But if you hear Emergency Room, then it is some serious thing. My dad is a carpenter, so he works with all the wood and machinery. At one of his job sites today, he was operating the saw, and the saw had caught onto his glove and had saw his pinky on he right hand. Good thing the pinky is still there, but i don't know much about it yet. Since i have only arrived to the hospital like 2 hours after he was admitted to emergency. When he asked me to go find him, he was in North Vancouver. It's quite a long way, he told me to take the taxi, cause he didnt want me to drive. But at that time it was impossible to find a taxi, and it would be very expensive. So i took matters into my own hand and called my mom to come to starbucks. Then I drove to the hospital on the highway. I was fortunate enough to be able to call someone to come and cover the rest of my shift. And she came very quick too.
At the hospital i was there from 7 to 9pm. Gosh. They're so slow there. The doctor would come, then go, and you would not know where the doctor went. Healthcare in British Columbia is very messed up. Even the doctor apologized for the wait, but he couldn't control the circumstances. Nor did we blame him, we were rather happy that he got treated, and could go home. Monday i will have to drive him to the hospital for some follow up.
My dad had called me instead of my mom, because he knew i would be proactive for what the situation is going on and know best how to treat it. As compared to my mom, she'd just be freaking out all over and make the situation worse. But I just feel very worn out right now. I need a hug. That's all for now. Good Night. | | |

Just as i thought i wouldn't be feeling it, the recession is coming to us too. Little Starbucks on the corner of the block. For quite a while, my work hours have been slowly decreasing to less and less giving more hours to those with full time. Starbucks has a policy to have a minimum availability of 16hours per week for part timers. I would usually receive about 20 to 25hours of work each week. Now, a new printed schedule just came out for the week of March 9th, with my working hours of only 14hours for that week. Previously i've had a few weeks where i've been scheduled for only 10hours or less too.
Lately i've been looking for jobs with the airlines, i might consider being flight attendant as well, if there aren't any jobs for Customer Service Agents. So far, i've applied at WestJet and also Air Canada. Those are actually the two and only major airlines of Canada. I don't wanna work for those mickey mouse airlines.. too small, not interesting at all. Maybe Cathay Pacific might be hiring too.. but not at the moment, i'll check their Canadian hirings later on..
But with the working hour cuts, gives me a even greater urge to find a new job instead.. if there are any that is... haha... Although the reason for me to find a job is because i have to resign before leaving for vacation..
PS: I also heard another part of the story about the assistant manager that recently started planning our work schedules is playing favorites... i dunno. But this week, each staff will get 30 minutes with the manager 1 on 1 discussion. Maybe i'll voice out my concerns too. Just very disappointed that i've always been doing friday closing shifts almost ever since i started working at Starbucks, and now its given to someone else. GRrrr
Any suggestions in what types of jobs i can try? I just really hate office jobs. They bore you all day long. I like interacting with other people. But please, not McDonalds. I deserve better than that. =)

| I left a note for my manager that i will be going to HongKong for six weeks. She tells me that if i leave for that length of time, then i will have to resign. When i come back i will have to apply at starbucks again. Except to skip the process of interviews and training. My manager told me she'd save a spot for me, and nothing is going to change. But then it gives me an opportunity to rethink if i want to find another job as well... i have a thought of working for airlines before... dont know yet. what should i do. what should i do. hmm? Oh! And Starbucks just came out with StarbucksVia Instant coffee, they are real coffee beans using some sort of secret method to grind the beans to micro fine... haven't tasted it yet. But its applicable for partner markouts! So much more convenient now. Cause i dont know how to brew coffee at home.. haha... | | |
